to me putting slightly better haeds on a motor only to slam the door with a manifold makes no sense. even the explorer has a header on it, not a super header, but worlds better than a manifold
That "thing" an explorer calls an exhaust manifold is quite possibly the ugliest most useless thing ever. I can't see it flowing any better than 90tc manifolds.
the stock Explorer things are just awful. Agree they can't possibly be as good as a 1990 Towncar manifold. manifolds aren't great, but if its a case of being able to bolt the engine in and drive the car, or having it sitting with no exhaust for a few months because there is no money, I'll take the manifolds.

Everything looks like voodoo if you don't understand how it works
what I was saying is you should have looked for a motor that had gt40 heads from the get go.
I'm going to explain this to you as calm and as clearly as possible. I am in a machine shop class, which is only a short amount of time. I needed a motor, and I was set to get a '96 explorer. Fucker sold the engine on me. I found another complete runningmountaineer motor. So, a running engine, is better than a non running one. It's nice to know that you're starting with a good core. Now, regardless if I had the GT40 or GT40p heads, it still doesn't change the fact that I have no money for exhaust modifications. So I would have run the stock '86 manifolds on the GT40 heads. Cause if you haven't noticed, a lot of us on here, aren't fucking loaded with money. So either way I'll kill performance regardless if the heads are gt40 or gt40p heads. I am not sweating a loss in performance right now anyway. The motor probably won't be anywhere close to being in the car until may, since I have no place to really pull my own motor, away from the elements until then... This car is also my daily driver so I can't have it down for long (since I need it for school), and shopping for exhaust parts while I have my only means of transportation out of commission for so long is just stupid. So, I will say this to you. If you are complaining about how I'm gonna kill performance for 5 or however many posts you did, just shut up about it. If you can't understand that I am on a budget, look that word up in the dictionary since you obviously don't understand what that means.

and budget is not an excuse to make poor decisions, when you are on a budget, you need to make each dollar count, make educated decisions to get the most for your dollar
all you had to say is, Im only looking for a replacement, performance is of no concern at all.
there is really no reason for anyone to be upset, I was just trying to help you get the most from your budget
what makes you think Im not on a budget like everyone else?
I'm going for performance as a long term goal, I'm looking for driveability as a short term goal. I will assemble the necessary pieces for a proper flowing exhaust, when I have the money. Right now, I'm focusing on rebuilding this motor, and I will see where I go from there.
the 90 town car tubular manifolds should flow about the same as stock shorty headers. a good temporary solution if you ask me.
have you confirmed that the plug wires will clear those john?
