The motor is now running!! It took its first breath this morning at about 8:30am! Right now it's still sitting in the dyno room with tfi distributor and demo box I used for the ignition system. Did a power pull later in the morning. 3 in total.

    1st time

    251.2 hp @ 4900 RPM and 319.9 ft lbs torque @ 3500RPM

    2nd time

    258.1 hp @ 4900 RPM and 324.1 ft lbs torque @ 3500RPM

    3rd and best so far

    258.3 hp @ 4900 and 326.5 ft lbs torque @ 3500RPM

    The engine specs

    1997 Mercury Mountaineer 302 V8
    Bored .020" over to 304ci
    Coated Hypereutectic Pistons
    Chrome Moly Piston Rings
    1.6 Roller Rockers
    GT40P heads
    Stock roller Cam

For the dyno, I had to run a carb, so it's got a Holley 4bbl. Right now it also has a TFI distributor (an extra from my car) and assorted wiring in the demo box that I was working on for my other class. Also had to obtain a flywheel which I was able to borrow from a friendly machine shop by the school. Pictures and videos when I am able to get to a computer that doesn't have dial up.

So once the long tubes and carb are off and all of the accessories are on you will be down to what HP?

I looked at both my explorer intakes, which look a bit different. Those two ports look even more like vac line ports on mine. Blew air through one, and sure enough it just comes out the other, no where else. And when i look back at pics from when i got the motor, i see the coolant lines running to it now. Tore the thing apart so fast, i just never noticed. you can see them right there on the front in the third pic.

Its important you found this, because i realized i've had my fuel pressure regulator hooked to one of those for almost 2 years thinking it was a vac source, this might explain some things.
This IS interesting... I will have to investigate and see if my intake has these ports and if anything is connected to it.

It might explain my low manifold vacuum and crappy fuel mileage.

Well, as far as I know so far. The engine swap is on for this weekend, at my uncle's work. I'm gathering all the little stuff left that I need for the engine to get put in. Gotta run to the junkyard to pick up an extra '86 Throttle body and swap the linkages to the explorer TB. I drilled and tapped the lower intake for the air temp sensor and coolant port up at skippyville this weekend (thanks for letting me use the drill and tap scott!). I also got the intake spacer from Thain (Thanks)! I'm getting a new radiator for the car, new hoses and belts of course. I should have everything ready for the swap by thursday I'm hoping.
