It wouldn't be a project without some tribulation... My last project had me dealing with borken bolts, and numerous other issues.

I've never seen engine "deposits" before. But, I will say that for antifreeze is nice and green, which is more than I could say for mine, when I had the intake off. And, mine isn't that old...

Good luck with the rest of this project.

Got the gasket and t-stat waiting to be installed after I clean up the lower intake. Gonna do it while its out of the car. And I'm starting to wonder about jut how well this thing was serviced. Still gotta fix the vacuum clusterfuck under the hood.

Spent a couple hours yesterday cleaning up the stock valve covers and cleaning all the carbon out of the upper and lower intakes. Dont have any pics of the intakes yet, but the valve covers cleaned up pretty good. I've never seen a set of original stockers this clean before. Swapped the Fel-Pro Permadrys out of the Vic for a set of cork gaskets so i could use the Fel-Pros in the Lincoln, since I didnt feel like like spending $50+ for a new set. Anyone who drives one one of these cars (Linc, merc, Vic) I highly reccommend you buy a set of these valve cover gaskets. Almost a year on the vic with no leaks, and after I wiped the oil off they looke like new. Got the Harmonic balancer off tonight too, my stupidy got the better of me. Pictures....

Did a bit more today. My girlfriend wanted to do some work, so she took the timing cover off for me and the old timing set, I installed the new one and she torqued it up (posing for the pic, we had to lock the cam gear to actually torque it) Tons of slack in the old chain, you can see it sagging, and all the teeth on the gears were quite worn. Glad I changed it.

She snuck in for a picture with the new timing set.

The slop doesn't look that bad honestly. Spec is 1/2" I believe, yours looked due but not really bad.

Do you have an HO camshaft laying around? Now would be the perfect time to stab that in.

I have two. Unfortunatly, i just sold my HO computer to gabe, and I spent a few weeks trying to track down injector pintile caps and O-rings so I could change them, basically imposible to find up here. You know of any other cams that allow you to keep stock injectors/ecm? And I didnt get another pic of the play on the chain pulling it the other way. i'd say there was 3/4" to 1" play.

I got fel-pro permadrys. Probably one of the best things you could put on these cars. I've not yet ordered the ASP pulley, I probably should. I dunno about what the shippings gonna cost me either, and I gotta get belts. Is it really worth it on a lopo though?

Engine is staying stock on this one, save for maybe an H.O upper. I'm just wondering if its a waste of $150

Cleaned and installed the timing cover tonight. Took a good hour of scrubbing in the parts washer to get all the crud off. Wanted to do the water pump tonight too, but it got too cold and started raining. Dont worry, the cork corner pieces wont be in there long, they ar temporary until i get to the shop to do the oil pan gasket. Scrubbed off all the crud on the front of the block too.

Thanks Greg. Its still got alot of flaws, but I'm trying to get as many out of the way as possible before it goes on the road. Get to work outside in the rain tonight (woohoo) cause I gotta get it done before I'm done school so I can take all my tools back to work.
